May Writing Meme: Days 3 & 4
Seeing as I'm not accomplishing much writing lately (not technically true: I'm writing lots, but the deadlines keep wooshing by without me) I may as well write about writing and count that as an accomplishment. This meme is courtesy of my beloved
jjhunter , and the full list of questions can be found at her original post, here.
Day 3: How often do you write? Do you have any writing rituals? Say, certain locations, beverages, background music, times of day, target word counts, etc.?
None of this is ever consistent for me, though generally I have background music on (I tend to make mixes that fit the tone of what I'm trying to write. Sometimes it helps.
Day 4: How much of the story do you know before you start writing it? Do you use outlines?
Again - it varies from story to story. I'm mostly likely to finish the story if I know how it's going to end from the outset. Some works use outlines (particularly my longer stuff - a 500 word summary of sorts will usually result in between 20 and 40k of actual words), others just seem to be me playing "first reader" of a story that's already fully formed in the back of my head.
