So last night I just kind of passed out, so let's finish this before appointment timez and then school timez, yes?

How do you lose after that opening line? How? Best answer: You don't. Absolutely gorgeous, and it definitely provides enticement for all the good things to come. And of course the reversal in the final line of the fic. <3

I was talking to Ali yesterday, and she was like, "MY CONTRIBUTION TO THIS FIC WAS SUGGESTING DEAN GET PAPERCUT ON HIS TONGUE. :D" Lolllll it is indeed beautiful. I'm all too familiar with that feeling, and the combination of H/C and TONGUES resulted in total sensory and glee overload.

And the way you (here and in all later spaces referring plurally to the both of you) slowly reveal what kind of clothes they're in--starting with that first cuff link!--is really wonderful. The premise of the fic unfolds organically and without confusion, even though it stats in medias res, with a thousand different hurried things going on.

Also, this is kind of random, but I especially loved Dean's narrative when it comes to describing the scenery around them: "odd animal-shaped topiary" and "sand-garden pit" are A+. And I love how it contrasts with Sam's later yeah, we're going to the Zegna store. It has to be Zegna; also they're BIG IN JAPAN. <3 And for some reason, I really enjoyed the taste of this line: "Come on, Dean—back when I was thinking about being a lawyer, Zegna suits were part of the daydream. Again, it's just kind of there to do its job, but it does take on this daydream like quality; it definitely sounds like something from a past life, but I love that it still comes up, even after all these years.

And oh god, the assessment of injury conversation in the Impala. *______* My faaaavorite. I love the proportions of concern and that feeling of unremarkable routine here. Because this does happen to them fairly often, and it still sucks, and still potentially Very Bad, but at the same time I always feel like their lives are kind of beyond the point where they treat every major injury (major by normal people standards) with the same concern normal people do. It was really nice to see that here.

AND OKAY THE CUMMERBUND. All you had to have Dean say was "Heh. Cummerbund." and I was like, :DDDDDDDD snerksnerksnerk. Because that line, all two words of it, was just so Dean; and the placement as a transition into the next scene works fabulously. And of course, the all-important question: "How can you come without a cummerbund?" I told you this on GTalk already, but if could ever refrain before, now I cannot even look at the word 'cummerbund' without smirking.

This is also kind of random, but mention of baku? FORTUITOUS AND GRAND INDEED. Pre-SPN, I had this summer-long obsession with baku, and a manga that concerned a baku. I've always kind of wondered if I'd see them in SPN fic at some point, because they're fucking fantastic. And I adore how even off-screen, they serve to texture the world of the piece so well. And mistakenly going after angels? Excellent twist!

Speaking of the texture of the world. I love all of the minor characters in this. I've spoken to someone about Show extras/guests--how in some episodes they do a really good job of characterizing a lot of low-importance people, such that we care, and others they don't. Well, this would be an example of really strong spot characterization, from the immensely talented Zegna tailor, to this description of the bridesmaids: they all wore brightly-colored kimonos whether they knew how to walk in the damn things or not: two of them definitely needed more practice. And the rest of the Shinoda family; maybe it's just because it's basically the only 'experience' I have with fanciness, but all of the dancing totally reminded me of the "Shindig" episode of Firefly. And the drunken Texan bodyguards filtered into that, as well. SO AWESOME.
