Alone in the Dark

So, birthday party went very well... right up until the point when I realized around 10:30 that the sudden headache I developed around 8  was in fact a migraine.  Packed up the remainder of the chili (not much, people did a real job on it), told people they were free to stay as long as the roomie would put up with them, and headed to bed.  In case you were wondering, in the war between Tylenol PM and NoDoze, the Tylenol PM wins (caffeine is a known palliative for migraines and NoDoze was the only form of it in the house).  I feel quite a bit better now, but I changed my browser settings to display everything as white on black for a bit, stupid photosensitivity.

I was going to finish up Impossible Things today, but I've got a question for you folks, below the cut if you haven't read it yet and don't want to be spoiled.  Also, the question won't make any sense until you've read it anyway.  No rush though, I think I might do some actual homework to fill the time.

I've got two completely different ideas for how to do the next chapter, which will sort out a lot of the aftermath.  One uses Tim and Martha as the main characters, the other uses Buffy and the Doctor.  So, which do I go with?  Either way, I think I'm going to leave the relationship question slightly unresolved, possibly because I'm not really quite sure how to resolve it.  And I hate leaving things too neat.  Let me know your thoughts, if you have any.

I'd say it depends on whether this is the last part or not. The story needs to finish with Buffy and Ten - it's been their relationship that's fueled the story, their ups and downs that have carried us along. They need to have the last word.

On the other hand, it would be nice to get to see Tim and Martha's views on what has just happened, and their perspective as the Family come marching on into the TARDIS.

And belated Happy Birthday wishes?

Buffy sent Martha and Tim to the school, so they're not in the TARDIS.

It's not the last part, though it might be the penultimate. And while there was a big emphasis on the relationship with Buffy and Ten/John, there was also a major emphasis on Martha and Buffy.

Martha's suffered a lot in this fic, because Buffy took away a lot of her heroics, so what was left was the bits where Martha is so obsessed with getting the Doctor back that she's blinded to everything else. And to top that off, now she's got to deal with being superseded by Buffy as a companion in a lot of ways. I think she respects and loves Buffy enough at this point not to be too bitter about it, but I need to avoid writing Martyr!Martha as well.

I'm starting to lean towards doing a Tim-Martha chapter, then a Buffy-Ten chapter, and then the final closing up.
